MSME Advertising Startup — AI Product Built as Technical Co-Founder

Micro, small, and medium enterprises represent the vast majority of businesses in any economy, yet they are systematically underserved by the advertising and marketing technology…

Verifiable Project Outcomes

  • Raised approximately $250k from prominent Indian investors — the product demo and technical architecture were the centerpiece of the investment pitch, demonstrating both vision and execution capability.

  • AI creative generation pipeline reduced design turnaround from 2-3 days to under 10 minutes, delivering brand-consistent assets with zero design overhead. A single business owner could now create a week's worth of marketing content in one sitting.

  • Platform validated with 50+ beta MSME users who reported a 35% increase in customer inquiry response rates when using the AI-generated creatives compared to their previous ad-hoc marketing materials.

  • The Challenge

    What was breaking

Micro, small, and medium enterprises represent the vast majority of businesses in any economy, yet they are systematically underserved by the advertising and marketing technology industry. The tools available to them are either too expensive (enterprise marketing clouds costing thousands per month), too complex (requiring dedicated design and marketing teams), or designed for entirely different use cases (social media management tools that assume professional content creators).

The gap between what MSMEs need and what the market offers is enormous. A small business owner does not have time to learn Photoshop, does not have a budget for an ad agency, and cannot afford to spend 2-3 days getting a single promotional asset created. They need to be able to generate professional, brand-consistent marketing creatives in minutes — not days — and deploy them across channels without technical expertise.

This startup was founded to close that gap. The founders had deep domain experience in the MSME space and a clear thesis: if you make advertising accessible enough, MSMEs will advertise more and grow faster. They needed a technical co-founder who could take this thesis from whiteboard to investment to product launch.

    The Intervention

    How we diagnosed it

We joined as the technical co-founder — not a build-for-hire vendor, but a true partner in the venture. From day one, we were involved in everything: refining the product thesis, building the prototype that would become the investment demo, architecting the technical infrastructure for scale, and making the engineering trade-offs that would define the product for years to come.

The core product: an AI-powered application that generates high-quality marketing creatives in minutes — ads, social posts, promotional assets, flyers — tailored specifically for MSMEs who have no design team and no ad agency. The AI had to produce output that was polished enough to publish, brand-consistent (colors, fonts, logos preserved), and fast enough that a business owner could create a campaign during a tea break.

    The Build

    What we co-created

The technical architecture was built around three core systems:

AI Creative Generation Pipeline: The heart of the product. We designed a multi-stage pipeline that takes raw inputs (product photos, brand guidelines, campaign goals) through asset selection, layout generation, typography rendering, and final compositing. The pipeline had to produce production-quality output — not obviously AI-generated — at speeds that made the product feel magical. We experimented with multiple model architectures, settling on a combination of layout diffusion models for structure and deterministic rendering for brand elements that had to be pixel-perfect. The pipeline reduced design turnaround from 2-3 days to under 10 minutes.

Technical Infrastructure: Built for growth from day one. Cloud-native architecture with auto-scaling for compute-heavy AI inference, content delivery network for asset serving, and a database design that could handle the relational complexity of user accounts, brand profiles, campaign histories, and asset libraries. We made deliberate technology choices that prioritized operational simplicity — the startup had no DevOps team, so the infrastructure had to be self-managing.

End-to-End Product Ownership: Our involvement spanned the entire product lifecycle — idea exploration (what features mattered most for MSMEs), prototyping (what could we demonstrate to investors), validation (user testing with 50+ beta MSME users), infrastructure (scalable, reliable, cost-efficient), and launch (production deployment with monitoring and support). Six months from whiteboard to working beta.

The investment round closed at approximately $250k from prominent Indian investors. The product and technical architecture were central to the investment thesis — the investors were not just buying a market opportunity; they were buying a technical team that could execute.
